The
Lakes
Rock Island
Lake Fishing Camp is a secluded paradise in British Columbia's high plateau
Kamloops rainbow trout country with fishing boats on twenty lakes, while many
others are accessible to float-tubers.
These world class
fishing lakes range in altitude from 1250m (4100 feet) to 1520m (5000 feet)
and vary in depth from deep volcanic to shallow beaver dam. They
differ from clear waters with marl bottoms to dark tea coloured lily pad ponds.
Rock Island, Upper Hardcastle, Lower Hardcastle, Crater and Wineholt Lakes are easily accessed from the Camp.
While some of the outer lakes have road access, many others are a combination drive and walk.
Imagine
a trout lake all to yourself, fly fishing with only the loons to share your
solitude.
The
Fish
We are fortunate that all the lakes have only one species, "wild Kamloops
rainbow trout". No coarse fish inhabit these BC high country waters.
The rainbow trout
vary in size from pan fry size to . . .?; the largest was caught in 1996 and
hit the scales at 8.5 pounds!
The
fishing is usually great at Rock Island, however, some lakes occasionally
go "off". When this happens, our staff can almost always get you into fish
with a few local tricks or a journey to a different lake.
